Screening of the film by Flavio Giacchero and Luca Percivalle. On 10 June 2023, in Valle di Viù (Valli di Lanzo), as part of the Viuleta, a festival of spontaneous singing and music of the Alpine arc, the Chant a batànt in the local Franco-Provençal language was tried out. A tradition with ancient origins and still alive in the contemporary memory of numerous witnesses: during work activities, or for fun, groups of people would sing and on the other side other singers would respond by continuing the verse of the song. The stations could be two, three or even more: a sound and cultural landscape typical of these valleys that has parallels in other places in Europe and the world. An aesthetic experience, a combination of man and environment. Some traditional songs were performed during the performance, including the ancient and emblematic Sul chastel del Mirabel still in use in the Lanzo Valleys. The film is presented with a contextualisation of the practice of oral tradition singing, involving traditional singers.
