An evocative night-time itinerant re-enactment to tell the history and secrets of the Fortress of Fenestrelle, the largest Alpine fortification in Europe, from 1728 to the present day: it takes place mainly in the open air along the walkways, the redoubts and the artillery emplacements, so suitable clothing is recommended. The Fortress, a great wall placed as a barricade in the Chisone Valley against foreign invasions, was built between 1728 and 1850: it stretches along the ridge of the mountain for a length of over 3km, with a total surface area of 1,350,000 sqm and a difference in height of about 600m; it is made up of eight defensive works, some large like St Carlo Fort, others small like the Ridotta St Barbara, all connected by internal and external walkways but above all by the famous “covered staircase”, 4000 steps over more than 2km!
